A full gutter doesn’t spill neatly off the front. Water backs up under the roof edge and runs down the inside of the fascia, into the eaves and down the wall cavity. By the time a stain shows on the ceiling, the timber has been wet for months.
Leaf litter holds water against the metal permanently instead of letting it drain. That is what turns a gutter that had fifteen years left into one that needs replacing — and replacing gutters costs many times what cleaning them does.
Clearing roofs and gutters of leaf litter is part of the standard bushfire preparation advice in Victoria, because embers land in dry debris. If you’re in the outer east or south east, this is worth doing before summer rather than after.

On roofs that need to be walked, we go up with a harness and anchor line. Falls from height are the main way people get seriously hurt doing this — it is the reason to pay someone rather than borrow a ladder.

Ranges, not one number, because a steep two-storey roof under gum trees is a different job to a flat single storey in the open. You get one fixed figure in writing before we start, and it doesn’t move unless you ask for something extra. No GST applicable.
