Why it pays

A dirty panel is a panel you paid for and aren’t using

Dust doesn’t rinse off

Melbourne rain is not a cleaner. It lands, dries, and leaves the dust bonded to the glass in a film — which is why panels often look worse a week after a downpour than before it.

Birds, lichen and pollen are worse

Droppings and lichen don’t just dim the glass, they block a cell completely. One shaded cell can drag down the whole string it sits in, so a small mess costs more output than its size suggests.

You won’t notice it happening

Soiling builds up over months, so there’s no day where output visibly drops. Most people find out only when they compare a summer bill against the same month a year earlier.

How much you get back depends on how dirty the panels were, how they’re tilted and what’s around them — a flat roof under a gum tree is a different story to a steep roof in the open. We won’t quote you a percentage we can’t stand behind. What we will do is photograph the panels before and after so you can see exactly what came off.

How we clean

Deionised water, soft brush, nothing that voids your warranty

Deionised water only

Water with the minerals stripped out. It lifts dirt and dries without leaving the white spotting that tap water leaves behind — and no detergent ever touches the glass.

Soft brush, fed pole

Most roofs are cleaned from the ground with a telescopic pole, so nobody walks on your tiles. Abrasive pads and pressure washers stay in the van; both can scratch the anti-reflective coating.

Harness when we do go up

Where the layout leaves no choice, we go up with a harness and anchor line. It’s in the photos we send you.

Photos the same day

Before and after, panel by panel. You see the result whether or not you were home.

Ranges, not a single number, because a steep tiled roof takes longer than a flat one. You get one fixed figure in writing before we start, and it doesn’t move unless you ask for something extra. No GST applicable.

FAQ

What people ask before booking

Will cleaning void my panel warranty?
No. Warranties are voided by abrasives, harsh chemicals and high-pressure water — which is exactly why we use none of them. Deionised water and a soft brush are what panel manufacturers themselves recommend. If your installer has specific instructions, send them to us and we will follow them.
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
Once a year suits most Melbourne homes. Twice a year if you are under gum trees, near a main road or a construction site, or if birds nest under the array. If you are not sure, send us a photo and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth doing yet.
Can’t I just hose them down myself?
You can, and for a ground-mounted array it is a reasonable thing to do. On a roof it is the single most common way people get badly hurt in this trade, and tap water dries leaving mineral spotting that shades the cells. If the panels are on your roof, it is not worth the risk.
Do you need access to my roof or my power?
We bring our own water and power. Most jobs are done from the ground with a fed pole, so we only need side access and somewhere to park within a hose run of the array.
Do I need to be home?
No, as long as we can reach the array. We photograph the job before and after and send it the same day, so you can see the result from wherever you are.
What if it rains on the day?
We reschedule at no cost. We do not work on wet roofs — it is unsafe and the finish is worse.
Which suburbs do you cover?
Roughly 25 km around Noble Park: Dandenong, Springvale, Clayton, Mulgrave, Keysborough, Oakleigh, Glen Waverley, Moorabbin, Bentleigh, Cheltenham, Mordialloc, Berwick, Narre Warren, Rowville, Ferntree Gully and the surrounding suburbs. Just outside? Ask anyway.
Do you clean commercial solar arrays?
Yes. Above 40 panels we price per panel and quote on site, and we can work outside business hours so your generation is not interrupted during peak sun.
